The A330 and A340

Post by Nick L »

Hello everyone,

We are proud to announce our latest project, the A330 and A340 family. This project includes both the external model and a virtual cockpit, with a virtual cabin coming later.

The external model has been designed in Gmax, with reference to Airbus documents and many pictures and videos, and incorporates numerous special features, including:

-A330-200, -200F, -300, and A340-200 and -300 models
-Both A330-200 vertical tail variants modeled (the original, taller version and the later "Post Mod 48979" version)
-For all variants except A330-200, ability to select large or small vertical tail root fairings
-Wingflex that reacts to speed, attitude, g-force, fuel load, and aileron deflection
-Control surface droop with engines off, including rudder deflection to one side or the other depending on wind direction
-Control surfaces that reduce deflection with increasing speed, including lock-out of the outboard ailerons above a certain speed
-Ground spoilers and spoilerons
-Modeled flap mechanisms
-Main landing gear bogie animations replicating (as much as possible within FS) the unique A330/340-specific bogie motion
-Nose-gear steering that reduces steering angle as speed increases, and holds its position when the aircraft stops mid-turn
-Windmilling engine fans and see-through "high-speed" fan discs
-Idle-reverser and blocker door animations
-APU intake, outflow valve, and pack vent animations
-Same method of hiding or showing antennas as the A380. Brake fans can also be shown or hidden using this mechanism
-Animated windshield wipers
-Opening cockpit windows, passenger doors, and main cargo doors
-Accurate Airbus double-strobe and beacon lights, with optional twin upper beacon lights for airlines such as Qatar Airways
-Lighting system includes switchable cabin lights, and strobe and beacon light reflections on the ground and fuselage that appear depending on the time of day
-Ground servicing equipment

The virtual cockpit features an extremely high level of detail, with features including:

Virtual Cockpit:
-All the standard FS animations
-Full VAS FMC implementation
-Backlit gauges
-Animated wipers, seats, sunshades, closet doors, jumpseats
-Detail objects (suits, books, coffee cups, eyeglasses, chart books)
-Wingviews

Virtual Cabin (coming later):
-First class interior space
-Inflight entertainment system with map display
-Animated trays, luggage bins, accessible lavatories
-Exits openable from the inside
-Seatbelt and no-smoking signs

More features may be added later for both virtual cockpit and cabin.

Here are a few preview shots. Please keep in mind that everything is still a work in progress.

Yes, yes, yes!!! We love this great project, exellent work. We see, patience will always be rewarded.
The A332F was planned to be asap our hight-tech middle-class-freighter on SkyFly Airlines. We have also the A333 & A343 PAX already in our fleet. We hoped and now we have the good fortune with your great project.
We wish the entire staff of this project much S6 with the further progress of this nice successor.

Thx&Grtz

I am really happy to see that PA Team is making Airbus 330 & 340.
I have a question for you.
Are you guys are just making a RR engine for A330?
When I see your preview shot, I can only see RR engine.
Thank you for making A330!!! :)

No A345/A346? Bummer. :(

Though will the FDE also include the HGW variant for the A332?

Looks good so far though.

I'm excited for the A330!

No super long A340-600 though?

Very excited for this project! I have 2 questions regarding the ailerons

Will the ailerons be split in 2 like how the A380 is split into 3? And also, will the ailerons move all the way up like the A380 or only a small way wth the flaps down ?

WOW!! This is amazing!
I guess after some years, Project Airbus will have the whole Airbus model range done.
Tremendous work!!
Keep it guys, that's why I love this group..

Hello,

this is outstanding news! I hope the A340-500/600 is also on this list.

The wheels on the main gear bogies are more spread out in the width than for other aircrafts-types, will you consider this in the modelling?

Cheers

The A330 is my favourite plane - and all these features - wonderful!

Please tell me that you also do an FSX model;)

I'm very very glad about these new models, the Airbus A330 ist one of my favorit airliners, it's a really elegant aircraft. Project Airbus is unbeatable in creating flightsim addons!

The A340-500 and -600 do have revised wings and bigger engines, so I can understand that PA wants mostly to built up the common A330/340 series, which have same wing and fuselage.

Best regards,
Elmar

Yeah, that's right. The A345/A346 have Rolls Royce Trent 500 engines, but the A342/A343 have CFM56-5C2 engines.

looks like they will not say... much like the a380 VC and the a320 V2.1 . The FSX model will get forgotten about despite the fact about 2 3rds of the pairbus fans are FSX users. Looks like it will be a really Great flyer, and the modeling detail gone into it looks second to none so really sad to say it but Ill stick with the thomas ruth models if there is no FSX model due :(

Guys quit asking about a A340-500/600, if they make it they make it, be fortunate they're doing an a340 one at all. And dont make this a FSX vs FS2004 argument. if they dont make it for FSX..too bad

1) I think in some cases it may be FSX compatible, but I've been a long time FS9 user so I'm not one to argue.

2) As for the A345/A346, I'm sure they will make it after the A330 and all. They're doing five variants including the A342/A343 which is a bit ambitious. Though after that, they should have mostly everything available to make one, so it's only logical to think it will come in due time. However, I've been advocating for one as we've been lacking a good freeware one for FS9 for the better half of seven or so years at least! In preventing myself from getting an ulcer (or feeling like getting one at least), I'd just say look at flightcraft's A340 model and you'll see why I am so much in support of PA potentially making an A345/A346.

Though at any rate, I can live with the A330. The way I see it, it's only a natural stepping stone to the A345/A346 down the road.

I'm a little curious on what exactly they will paint on the A342 though.

We have done five variants; the models are complete. They'll all be previewed in due time.

which is exactly why i have both Fsx and Fs9 installed... grabbing whatever is available, not having to worry about what its being created for..

The models are finished? That's really great - can we expect a release of the models soon, or do you wait until the VC is also finished?
Maybe it'll be good to release the models first, so that the painters can start painting, and when you release the VC, a lot of paints are already available :)

And can you tell us now any comment about FSX models? There are a lot of FSX User's today, and Thomas Ruth converted your A320 V2.0 /A319/A321 models to FSX, so what's against doing FSX models? Please think about the lots of people who switched to FSX in the last years ;)

There's still a lot of work to be done on the textures.

One question. Did you programmed that the spoilers/speedbrakes are extending and retracting so slow as in real?

that is good to finally hear that from someone in the know... i hope it won't turn out to be another one like the a320 v2.1 when it said "FSX version might come Later" ... and never did...

Appreciate the fact you're doing the A330-200F variant too. Would like to see the A340-500/600 done too by the PA team hopefully.

YES!! It was you Alexis. Because I found the coffee cups in the A380 not obvious enough so I thought a colourful in-flight meal in the tray (if there's one) would be quite a good idea :D but thanks anyway ;) I really look forward to discovering random things in the cockpit

Come on guys. Let them finish the A330/A340-200/-300 and we will see if they're doing the A345/A346.
But at first I hope they doing the aircrafts also for FSX. I mean why they won't do that because they doing it for the A321and A380 for example.

Is the VC still work in progress at the moment? or is it almost done?

I don't know what it is, but it looks like most developers doesn't like Airbuses. You guys, POSKY and iFDG is probably the only group that cares about european aircrafts which also looks great, and that is awesome! And on top of that, you're giving it to us for free, only imagining how many working hours you've put in these projects, and probably money involved too...

Love you guys at Project Airbus <3
