A380 Virtual cockpit previews

Post by Alexis »

Before the news post, I'm clarifying again that all things shown here are WIP and you're not seeing the finished product in these shots.

Now, to get on with stuff. First thing to be previewed is Gary's radio. His first job was to create a radio that looks to work in similar fashion to the real 380's. How it works is explained below. The radio has all FS9 radio functions implemented. It is also used for entering the transponder code.

Image

1. Top row: select radio function here you see VHF (COM) selected
2. Audio on/off for COM1/2, NAV1/2 e.t.c. Here you see COM1 on, COM2 off. The next to the right is NAV1/2
3. Line selector. Push the button of the frequency you want to change
4. Numeric keypad: type in the frequency, delete it with CLR if you want to. Once done, hit Enter, to the right of the arrows
5. Switch between active/standby frequency

Thanks for sharing it with us Alexis. This is certainly a "New Generation" in VC design. Great work on those gauges.
B.T.W. How did the exams go? :) If I was the examinator I would give you 110% ;)

Im not exactly sure how to set up ILS with VC's that have "VHF", "HF" and all that...

Like Default ones are Comm 1 and 2, Nav 1 and 2.

Set a frequency to nav1 and then the rest i can do.

Few final model changes, few textures, rest of the gauges

Farnborough? have fun, in May on Work Experince i got a 3 hour tour of the SIA A380 Outside and Inside.
It was being towed from a Romote Stand to T3 Gate 301, so i was with the guy doing the breaks so soon after we parked the captain said he would allow me in for them programeing it for the flight! Great fun turning the Beacon and seatbelt sign on but even better when he droped hydro and let me deploy the speed breaks!
After going in it you are going to want the realist VC you can make on FS trust me!

Have fun :)

Nope. There is Ken Mitchell's FMC, from his A340 panel, but not a fully featured one. If someone has the time to make one though, he'll find he can put it on the 380 and map it on its keyboard.

Maybe some newbie doesn't realize how their loved (fps killer in FSX being run in low spec systems)virtual cockpit is complicated to do...a decent virtual cockpit can take alone more time and resources than the external model of the airplane...a virtual cockpit made with modern standards(let's say at least the level of the default FSX airplanes) is made with more polygons of the external model of the airplane and often contains HD textures...let's add that it needs specific programmed gauges(in the case of the A380) and animations and you have an idea of what we are talking about...it takes years to payware developers, not to mention for freeware developers...you are just capable of complain... "when will we have the VC model???", because for you the wonderful external model that has been released isn't enought for you...flight simulation exists from more than 20 years...and virtual cockpits have been introduced just with FS2002...in my opinion a wonderful 3d external model and a good widescreen 2d panel(and a series of panels covering all the cockpit) is sufficient to make a perfect aircraft...even because without track IR and some MCP panels that you can touch with your hands, without going mad trying to catch the right knob or button with the mouse (at least the main functions of the autopilot) the virtual cockpit loses all it's advantage against the 2d panel...virtual cockpits are made more for kids who like to identify with the role of the pilot...and cares more about the appearance, the look, the graphics rather than the substance... they are the ones who keeps on panning around continuously with the joystick hat switch during an IFR flight wich instead would require more attention to the instruments...

Thickfog wrote:...virtual cockpits are made more for kids who like to identify with the role of the pilot...
ehhh that's why they call it "simulation", you actually simulate the role of pilot :o , and let's be honest Vc are more realistic and that's what developper are trying to do all this years, I don't think actual pilots can't turn their heads like turtles from instruments during long haul flights [2d panels,] but everyone has it preference

but I agree with the complaining THAT is childish, esg and gary your gauges are orgasmic :)

VC looks amazing. Those pictures should really be of a lot of help Stian. I can wait for this VC. I say this because....
1. Im not a childish person that keeps saying "When will it be released" over and over....
2. The longer the wait, the better it must be because of the more time that was spent on it.
3. You guys always do an amazing job so why rush you!

Apart from that question is not allowed and it is not in every freeware forum..... do not expect it soon.

We have a lot of work to do, gauges involve lots of work.

Hope you all appreciate the day this comes out.

i think it's worth to wait even a jear, if it needs so long
it should be the "best" VC for FS2004, with all functions of the A380, and aas real as possible.
Something like the Posky 777 VC. I wish everyone who's working on the VC good luck and "fun" do do this awesome job.

Hi all,

I know it's been a long time since our last update. We just want to ensure everybody that we're progressing slowly. But rest assured. When we have something to show we'll show it.
