Moving on, part 5

Post by Alexis »

Hi guys,

Following a brief period of hibernation, we've recently decided to get things back in action and resume work on the A380. Being that we don't work with deadlines, no release date has been (or will be) set.

We would like to thank every one of our supporters and those who have not lost faith in our group. We are aware there were a lot of foul talk doing the round and a lot of people who wrote us off as well as trash-talked as to the reason we decided to take our time-off. Dare we say that this project and where it stands today - is testimony to the fact that we did exactly what we said - take time off and do it on our own terms. As simple as that.

We appreciate everyone's interest in this project and in our group, however we will not be able to cater to any specific requests for additions to the features. We will do all that we can to make this to the best of our abilities but we have reached a freeze on systems and features for the model. So we'd appreciate if there are no posts made on this aspect or messages sent asking for changes.

Even though the original plans were to be more elaborate, we are extremely happy to have a wonderful team together and talent in doing what we have managed to do with this so far.

The A380 will be released for FS9, but similarly to the A320 series, it should be perfectly compatible with FSX.

The exterior model is made entirely in GMAX. As always, the focus was put on accuracy and performance, Fuselage cross-sections, wing profiles/airfoils, hundreds of videos/pictures, and whatever other references we could find were all used to this end, while a texture layout similar to the A320 series' keeps it running smoothly on lower-end systems.

The model features more custom (XML) animations than previous releases, some examples being:
  • Improved wing-flex effect. The wings react better to G-loads, ground spoilers flex them downwards on landing, wings droop more or less depending on fuel load
  • Typical control surface droop when the engines are off (including rudders)
  • Parallel bogies when on the ground, taking into account that when the aircraft is pitched upwards, the outer-main gears hang freely
  • Animated pack vents
  • Idle-reverser animation
  • Ground spoilers on the ground (including ailerons)
  • Accurate nosewheel movement. The nosewheel steering deflects progressively less at higher roll speeds, and should the aircraft come to a stop in mid-turn, the nosewheel retains its heading (as it should) and doesn't automagically come back to centre
  • Accurate LAF (Load Alleviation Function) simulation for the aileron movement. All 3 aileron sections move separately as they should (video examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKuwJG4a6Bw - real world, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbRsn25PJ7k - FS)
  • Windmilling engine fans. The fans react to oncoming airflow, be it due to wind or airspeed. Fan inertia is also modeled
  • New method of hiding unwanted antennas. They will no longer be hidden via the alpha channel, thereby avoiding the “fuselage holes” issue in FSX SP2
  • Animated window wipers in rain and snow
  • Animated nose and AoA sensors
The model will also feature accurate Airbus "double strobes" on the wings, many opening doors, opening cargo bays (including the bulk cargo), accurate gear extension/retraction sequences, transparent fan blades at high RPM, detailed flap and reverser mechanisms, etc.

The virtual cockpit model will be released after the wingview model, once the panel is complete.

On to the previews...

Wow guys. This is great news :D . When all went offline, so to speak, I was tremeandously upset as the work you guys gave to the community was better than any payware A318/19/20  . And it was done by the best team with plenty of great support on the forums. Now that you're back online with this announcement my tears are of great joy. This is great news. I'm speachless.....
:D :D :D
And that the A380 is still WIP, the emotions are coming up again. Fantastic news. Whooopiii :D :D
Nice to see what you guys are busy with. Sounds like a mammouth project, but the efforts won't go unnoticed by the lovers of your great works.

A well deserved break indeed this is a very good day for all flight sim fans and fans of the airbus series of aircraft welcome back to the fold and the King of the skies sure does look impressive, my VA awaits this beauty for sure. Congrats on the return. And I think you will find those who did not appreciate you before certainly would now as they mightve realised exactly what they were missing ;).

Great news and take whatever time you need to complete this A380.

An idea on the VC when you get down the road that far. Tom Ruth has a great starting point (if not more) for the VC using his A340 panel . Collaborating with him when the work on the VC starts might be advantageous.

Looking forward to a great A380.

And please delete that Farewell-post on the main page, so everyone understands that "the leading freeware flightsim design group" is back!

Thank you so much. I can't await flying this beauty! :)

One question: Are you also planning after finishing the A380 to continue working on the A320 Series (A321 or sharklets)? It would be great.
But thank you very much for being back in business.

It all depends on the talent that we have & any new talent that we can attract for FDE/Panel/Modellers etc. It was the same issue before... we struggled.. we took a break... we worked at it.. we're back.

Where we go, is again largely as Demetris said.. "dont know yet"

Are we still open for talent? Yes.

Just so that all of us understand clearly.... By "open for talent" what do you mean exactly?

Glad to see you back! Can't wait for such a stunning A380!

You mentioned a panel, is PA going to make this or someone else? Is the virtual cabin still going to be included?

Thanks,
Faris

I cannot give you a clear answer on the panel. We'll get to it and see how it goes. The cabin can't coexist with the cockpit because of the renderer's limitation in FS9. It's either one or the other. You will be notified with updates when there is some progress that is worth mentioning, don't worry about that.

May I just say to the "PAirbus" team that the models in which you guys have produced so far are the most realistic aircrafts ever made for FS....along with the PMDG 747 ofcourse and I am not "gasing". I dread to even think exactly what a Project Airbus A330-A340 series may look like, especially after viewing your A380....JEEZE!!!. Or even a "Project Boeing" section. That would surely put Project Opensky out of business with their "UGLY CHUBBY WINGS"..lol. Their fuselage is perfect on the B777 though.... I sincerely hope that you guys are being paid your dues. To each member of the team---"you are a blessing" and I wish you the best in the up and coming future.

P.S. you shudnt scare simmers like dat again..lol

Thank you very much for the kind words. However we have never sought to be compared to other groups, either Airbus modellers or otherwise. Having said so, it is part of life and we often end up being put into a spot due to loyalties of followers on either side of the fence. In either case it doesnt matter to any of us in PA. We've said it before and we keep saying it. We do what we like and what we enjoy doing. We do what we CAN but make sure we give it everything we got.

We may not sport the swankiest website nor the largest supporters and definitely not the best forums, but i have got to say that i have probably worked with some of the best and most talented people in this business that i have had the good fortune of knowing and to be counted as a colleague to them is more than sufficient.

Thanks for the offer but as someone mentioned, we do beta test it ourself. Painters are not really an issue.

What we really welcome is applications for modellers, FDE specialists and Panel designers.

You won't like it at all.
Core i7 920 overclocked @3,8GHz
6GB RAM @ 1140MHz
Radeon 4870x2 2GB

Average FPS over NYC with default 737: 8-9
With ultralight: 10-13
FPS on X-Plane, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3: 60-no more, no less
Bad programming.

Its not look so bad i have 2 computers one of them run all games perfect and the other ok :)

Here is the specs of the new:
Processor : Intel® Core™ processor I7-920 S1366 2,66GHz 8MB 130W
Cache minne : 8 MB
Graphic card: 2x NVIDIA® GeForce® GT230 1.5GB SLI DVI/VGA/HDMI E0
Harddiskdrive : 640 GB SATA 7200rpm
Minne : DDR3 9216 MB (3x1G+3x2G) Triple Channel

so......

What liveries may our good friends Tom Collins and company paint on this beauty? Tom Collins is a good friend of mine, and I did ask if he could possibly squeeze in a Korean Air somewhere. We may see, but regardless I look forward to seeing whatever liveries there will be on it.

Though I do remember seeing a little hint of Singapore on the first ever previews, so I'm lead to believe...

why speculate? It's not a rocket science. It should have every available livery on release.. if not, we intend to cover all the OPERATIONAL carriers operating this a/c as of release day.

The list of who's painting what may be put out later but it really is not of extreme importance to us. The final list of liveries will definitely be put out when its released.
