Well the A340 has less range with less passengers compared to the B777, and in addition it carries two engines more, which ones want to be maintained and payed. So it was a decision of Airbus market analysts, to finish the production line. For us aviation enthusiasts it's a pity, this aircraft is a really elegant Airbus, the A330 also, so guys, this one still stays in production, till the A350 is coming. ;)

Best regards,

Elmar

I have a small question (not part of this topic), if PA in the near future dont attempt the A330, which A330 would you use and why? (POSKY, Overland, or CLS)

Seeing aircraft lines shut down is always painful. I was upset when the last 717 was delivered... :( Later Douglas!

Perhaps Airbus sees the A380 as the good substitute for the A340. After all, the A380 flies a little further than most of the A340's ( with the exception of the -500 I believe) and it seems to have a lot more room and capacity for people and cargo. If they wanted to keep the same number of pax, perhaps they could give the people in economy some much needed breathing room.... :D
