D-AIMA at DUS

Post by DavidS » 06 Jun 2010, 21:42

Hey, just a small vid I made the other day when the LH A380 came for a visit to Düsseldorf...

I'm sorry for the shaky camera, I didn't have the time to set up a tripod and when it came nearer I needed to rotate my feet so I could film it the whole way to the runway ;-)

Wow!
How can she fly so slow?
What is her landing speed and her stall speed limit?

Typical REF speed is around 135-140kts I believe. Stall speed at full flaps is likely in the 105-110 range, depending on weight of course.

That is remarkable!
A jumbo jet with the landing speeds of a normal jet! :)

The A380 has effective flaps and is very stable flying at low speeds.
A Lufthansa pilot said: "It's similar to flying an A320."
The ailerons and rudders are so big that they produce enough force to make this giant plane a nice to fly aircraft.

Exactly. It was the biggest challenge to make the change-over between Airbus models as easy as possible with the shortest amount of training neccessary. And the A380 having such big flaps, the stall speeds will be very low. Nice to see the big Airbus landing at DUS.
