Actually it doesn't contain landings. I've done a little math and I believe it.
According to the Airbus site, 4218 A320-series airframes are in operation. Let's say each one of those aircraft does 4 takeoffs a day (rough number, most airlines do more, but then not every airframe flies every day so I think it's reasonable).
4218x4 = 16872 takeoffs a day.
60x60x24 = 86400 seconds in a day.
86400/16872 = 5.12 seconds between takeoffs.
Regardless of whether my numbers are accurate, it shows the figure is definitely in the ballpark.
