Now before I begin describing in explicit detail in the problems I've been facing, I have installed aircraft, panels, sounds, etc. into FS for years. Hell you all have seen me paint my Korean Air A380 paint. However in all my years of being involved with this hobby have I never been this genuinely confused and stymied as to what is wrong.
For starters, my OS is Windows 7 and I am a faithful user of FS9.
I noticed the problem maybe a month ago with my CLS A330/A340. I installed a Korean Air A330 paint for it, and - despite everything being in the proper position- FS9 doesn't even recognize it. I looked over the aircraft.cfg file and that looks fine. The texture folder looks fine, but it doesn't even show up.
I then copied and pasted the folder of the A330, renamed it Korean Air A330. It showed up, but when I selected it, it messed up my FS where everything seemed to flicker an awful lot. When I restarted FS, it was gone.
I then reinstalled both FS and CLS A330/A340 enough times lately that I've stopped caring to count. Both didn't fix the problem though. Next I installed liveries for all the variants. Aer Lingus for GE, Air Canada for RR, and Korean Air for PW. All but the PW variant showed up just fine.
My dad and I looked it over. He couldn't figure it out. I recently had Air New Zealand A320 help me figure it out. He was stumped as well.
I installed the POSKY 777-200LR, and then added the textures of Tom Collins' Delta paint. The Delta textures didn't show up. Everything in the FS directory looks fine, so what in the world is causing this? Part of me thinks it's either Windows 7, or FS that is causing this to happen, as well as me nearly ripping my hair out.
I have finals in about two weeks so I may not be checking this too often. However your help will be immensely appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Difficulty Installing Aircraft
Re: Difficulty Installing Aircraft
Start -> type "%appdata%\Microsoft" (sans the inverted commas) and hit Enter, and delete the FS9 folder

Re: Difficulty Installing Aircraft
well it does show the Delta 777-200LR in the directory, but the screen is black and it gives an error when I select it. As for the CLS, everything is still there. It seems to constantly restore that folder you told me to delete.
and the proper term for these ("...") are quotation marks btw

Okay, that was the only idea I had.

Have you checked your graffics card? Wich one do you have?
My guess is that If everything is flickering inside the sim in the fullscreen mode then something is probably wrong with the graffics card..

Re: Difficulty Installing Aircraft
I don't run my FS into fullscreen mode and the flickering is a one off event.
The weird thing is that there's no folder for the RR variant of the CLS A330 when I go into the %appdata% section and those run just fine when I add any textures to it (.i.e. SAS)
While I may not be able to test out any of your suggestions within the next two weeks due to finals, I still encourage you guys to try and post any possible solutions that may come into your head. I promise I will try them once I'm back home for the holidays.

Re: Difficulty Installing Aircraft
So Mike, it sounds like a problem I have with FSX and Windows 7. Maybe a Windows 7 thing as it caches "child" objects like aircraft and sceneries somewhere other than the FS main directory, so if I make manual changes to aircraft.cfg's or paste in a new *.air file, the cached ones always come back. My only sollution, in the case of aircraft up till now, is to remove the whole aircraft (move it somewhere else) then edit it and then copy it back to the aircraft directory of FS. And hey, my changes then show up in FS. It is irritating and I am wanting to find a sollution. I have a payware product called FSX Booster that has a function to clean up simobjects in FSX, and that seems also to work.
Still looking for a sollution

hmm that has been a problem for me in the past, but you can click on the aircraft.cfg and then allow full control for editing it.sknepper wrote:So Mike, it sounds like a problem I have with FSX and Windows 7. I'll add you on msn and see what I can do to help you out on that.
As for my issues, I have checked a box to allow FS9 to run in administrative mode and see if that solves any of my problems. Either way, I'm undecided at that point whether to laugh at the situation or simply grab the nearest pillow and just scream and swear up a storm in it.
