SID/STAR/APPROACH free Database Project

Posted: 06 Feb 2013, 12:53
by fdd_fr
In my FMS project, I need a free database of NAvaids, include SID - STAR and APPROACH data for a maximum of airports.

The FMS project is in this topic --> viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1942

Important update, May 23 2014 :
Until today, our airports was based on the AIRAC navaids update file created by Graham Mitchell. So as this AIRAC file has some problem (wrong region code for many waypoints, or waypoints declared in wrong route, the FSX flight planner doens't work properly when we use it.

So, we decided to stop to use this AIRAC and build our own AIRAC. THis decision requires that we must revised all the actual airport database; this job will take 2 or 3 weeks, so for the moment, we stop to create new airports, time to update the actual database and create the freenav AIrac.

When the new system wil be ready, a new database will be uploaded.

I am writing a new user manual to create SID/STAR/APPROACH files, and the process to create missing waypoints which will add to the Freenav AIRAC.

Other news : The host website has changed ;

Now, Freenav DB Group has is own website :

http://freenavdbgroup.com

The actual database is on this website and requires always the graham Mitchell AIRAC. But at the end of june 2014, a new database will be , and the graham Mitchell AIRAC will be replaced by the Freenav AIRAC.

I will come back to you as soon as possible

Francois Dore

End of update
05/23/2014

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blacks airports have only SID for the moment
Blue airports have SID and STAR for the moement
- Red airports have SID , STAR et FINAL APPROACHES (ILS, LOC, RNAV )

You can download airports data and tools to create SID/STAr Approaches files. Website is in french today, but english coming soon.

Note tu use these SIDs :
- These SID are only compatible with the panel 0.46a and later.

- This Database is build with the support of the AIRAC file of Graham Mitchell, from VATSIM. You can visit his website and download his navaids database : Graham Mitchell Website and his Navaid database

Hi Francois,

Just a quick question. I am running into airports that have a single SID that has just a heading and no intersection or VOR etc. as waypoints and no assigned altitudes. Spokane (KGEG) is an example. Since your database requires a waypoint to identify a SID, I have no way to add them in the database. Since there are a lot of intersections available, what would you think of selecting an intersection near the departure route and the lost communication altitude for that intersection to allow adding the SID?

The question is basically how much realism do we want. We have already lost some realism by not being able to select intermediate altitudes and speeds. would this additional loss be an acceptable workaround to allow adding the SID? I vote for doing this.

Looking for input,
Fred.

Hi Fred,

I have just download the KGEG charts. In facts, there is no SID. YOu have only an instruction departure process, by follow the heading of the runway, and after, you must be guided by an ATC. In this case, there is no SID for KGEG.

But, when I will completed the organization of the STAR and Approach files, you will create STAR and Approach for KGEG. But I need time to define this organization, because descent and approach is very compex, and there is many different ways in the arrival procedures.

I am sorry, I havn't tested yet your 2 airports. I get dozen of mails per day, and I have a week with many professional work. I can't seem to find the time to work on the panel. I can't do all in the same time.

I will try to test them this evening or tomorrow.

Take your time, I am overloaded.

So, I think that must a name for the people that will participate to this project, bacause, this database can be used by othser people or developer. I think "FreeNav DB group".
Suggest some names ! But I think that it is important that the files must be signed, by the crator name, and the Group.

Hi,

I know that You're very busy now, but when You have a time could you create SID or STAR for EYVI or EYKA airports?

I think that I can do it myself, but I'm very bad in programming.

I must before define the organization of the STAR and APPROACHs Files. It seems that the STAR process is little different according the COuntry.

For example, in France, the last awaypoint of a STAR is always the IAF, and it is always the Fix where there is the hold pattern.

in USA, it seems different (Hold pattern can be before hte last waypoint of the STAR, and this last waypoint is not the IAF. Rules are different

I must read many charts and map od different countries, before to know how I must organize my files andd how I must write my gauge code.

Be patient.

Thank you very much Gary !

All porject Airbus aircraft will get this database.

Important :

I must add a new column, because in many case, the LNAV must be engaged after take off, at a specific altitude . In fact, after take off in the runway heading (or specific heading wrote on the aiirport chart), the LNAV must be engaged for the first turn to the first waypoint.

I will place this column in fourth position , between "Takeoff HDG" and "THR RED" alt.

This is by readings many charts, that I have understand that this value is important in some case.

So, if no value is showing on the cahrts, you will set the value to 0

If there is a value, it will be set automatically in the FMS.

I will modify the creation kit file with this new column and I will post after the end of the day.

And I will publish a new panel (0.46) that will take in consideration this new value.

Sorry for the convenience.

Francois

Here is the new toolkit, V2.0 with the new column for the LNAV data:

SID toolkit V2.0

The SID V2.0 needs an update of the panel. I works now The actual panel 0.45 cannot read without erro the future SID V2.0

I post the new panel in few hours

This happened to me once too with LFPO.

I have updated the panel (0.46a) for the SID V2.0. You can downloaf it in the aircraft topic.

And I have update the first post of this topic with the link to download the SID V2.0 completed, only 2 SIDs at this time : LFPO and KPDX.

The V2.0 format is a definitive format. No change in the future.

New airport, created By Fcerven : KSEA - Seattle Tacoma. See the link in the first post to download the KSEA folder.

But I ask you if you can test this airport. fcerven has an addon scenery of this airport, and he has some waypoints that I havn't.

Can you test for exemple, the SID KMORE, from the runway 34R.

I havn't 2 waypoints of this SID :
- ATOME
- KTSAP

I join a screenshots made by fcerven, where you can see on the map and on the waypoints list on the right of the gauge, these 2 waypoints :

Image

Can you tell me if you have these 2 waypoints ?

It is very iimportant for Fred and me, because we must know, if the problem comes from his scenery or if the problem is that the US version of FSX is different of the French version.

Thank for your help and please, when you answer, please tell me which version of FSX you use (alone, SP1, SP2 , acceleration, Deluxe...) and which language of FSX ?

Thank you very musch

Hi Francois,

I did check the EXCEL database of waypoints you sent me and the ones above were both there. This is strange. They are in the database from your machine (I assume) but don't show when you bring up the airport and FMC.

Hope we find the source of the discrepancy. I can send you my file if I know which file to send.

I can't know which file, because, It is probably a .bgl file added by your scenery. Try to desactivate temporally your scenery in the FSX scenery manager.

We must know the origin of the porblem.

This is not UTX . I have UTX USA. And UTX add no waypoint. This is just a landclass. Don't desactivate it fred.

I have tried on my notebook, where I have an install of FSX without any addon : FSX SP2 acceleration alone. I havn't ATOME and KTSAP.

Please, if someone can try please ?

This is very important, because that's means that if the FSX database is different accorfding the country, I must change the file format of the SID, to enter all the waypoint only by LAT/LONG, to be sure that SIDs ill work on all computer.

Please, some help ; That's take 5mn to launch my aircraft on the KSEA airport.

Thanks

I have another problem with an airport reaized by fred : KBWI Baltimore.

You can download here : http://www.db-online.fr/francois/temp/KBWI.zip

For all the TERPZ 3 SIDs, I havn't some waypoints; the following are miised on my 2 computers :
- TERPZ
- WONCE
- LINSE
- JIMME
- RAMAY
- ADDEK
- BRUTL

Can you tell me if you have these waypoints ?

All the others SIDs ( SWAN" and " PALEO " departures) work fine and I have all the waypoints.

Thank you very much

New aiport has been added to the realized list : LFRK - Caen Carpiquet France, by Jean-pierre Varnier. See first post to download.

The mistery is solved.

Fred use a navaid file that add missing waypoints to the FSX GPS database. This database is regularly updated .

This databse is a BGL file to add in "your FSX directory\Addon Scenery\scenery\

You can find it by this link : http://www.gbmitch.net/

I think that we will use this database, because the work will be easier, with less waypoints to create by LAT/LONG informations.

I wait the opinion of members of "pilote-viruel.com" members that help me to build the databse and I'll let you know.

Thank to fred for this find !

Hi Airbus Fan,
Once you have copied the files into the Addon Scenery\Scenery folder, you need to start FSX. If everthing is right, you will get a message as FSX starts saying it is re-building the database. If you don't get that message, you will want to go to the settings tab after FSX starts, go to the Scenery Library tab on the right of that screen and make sure that the Addon Scenery is enabled with a check mark. Then re-start FSX. Now it should re-build the database as it starts and the waypoints should be there.

Hope this helps,

Fred.

Check if your selected the right path. You must have this 3 files in your fsx\addon scenery\scenery\ folder :

if you have seven, and your flight simulator in "c:\program files...", maybe seven protect to write in this folder . I have hears something like this about seven. You must be in administrator mode i believe...

Hi Airbus Fan,

You will not see the files in the FMS because they add additional waypoints into the FSX database for the FMS to use. The way to tell if the waypoints are there is to bring up the KMORE SID you loaded for KSEA before and compare it with the picture you provide earlier in this thread. You should see the 2 missing waypoints when you compare the pictures and it should look like the one Francois put up on Feb. 12. If that's the case the FMS is using them.

Hope this is the case,

Fred.

Hi,

2 more airports completed :

LFML - Marseille Provence - France - Jean-pierre Varnier
LFRD - Dinard - France - Jean-pierre Varnier

since today, we build all our database with the graham Mitchell Fix updated navaids that you can find on his website : http://www.gbmitch.net/

Graham Mitchell , of VATSIM, has realized an fantastic job by an huge update of the FSX waypoints.

I have completed the file format of the STAR, that take in consideration, the minimum altitudes, maximum speed and hold patterns. I have completed the xml gauges to red the STAR files and include the data in the Flight plan.

It remains to me to write now the code to the managed descent according the STAR.

I have choose KPDX : Portland, to test these STAR and I hope present you a beta version for this weekend.

When I launch FSX, I went to scenery library. Then checked that the Addon scenery is marked. Then I pressed Ok and I saw this message: Bulding database for a new scenery files. Then I restarted FSX, launched a flight and... no waypoints.
