well duhhh the map for the nose is 4k, and the rear- and midfuselage are 5k  i can always resize it for FS purpose, but I'm most likely gonna remap the whole thing anyway then

tnx

and to get more out of the incredibly huge map, I added some tiny rivet lines (nose only) that are almost invisible

Think thats what he means, 4k = 4000x4000, or 4096x4096 if he's used powers of 2.

Fuselage textures are done, and so are the wing textures. I just forgot to add the spoilers, and when I wanted to do that there wasnt enough room.

It looks really nice! But will FSX handle those texture sheets? Doesn't it only handle sheet sizes that are a power of 2 with a maximum of 2048px?

well I'm gonna remap (and maybe retexture)for FS later anyway, and I just found out how to add more object in one map, so I can just map smaller parts of the fuselage and wing etc. and put as many pieces in one map. There shouldnt be a limit for the amoutn of maps used, so dividing the mesh on more maps gives just as good results (i hope). alignment is gonna be hell, but its worth the detail right? :D

Should I release a paint kit so people can paint it? I do need some fictional VA liveries for my video..

So am I to understand this will be an FSX exclusive project? FS9 has been lacking a high quality A340 model for quite some time now. :/

It looks so beautiful, I'd love to see an FS9 version, kindly give it some consideration.

As of now, nothing is set in stone, but ultimately the goal is to make an FS9 and FSX version, like with all PA models. However, as of now, its still a personal project, to be used for private purposes. More updates to follow soon.

Any chance for an A330-300? Once done with the A340 of course

sure, all I have to do is put some new engines on it, shorten the fuselage, remove the fuel-dump tube, and weld the slats. And ofcourse remove the center main gear + doors, and there's your A333.

I have no idea, I'll find out after I actually finish the model. But with some help from the PA guru's, I'm sure we'll figure out a way.

This was the intended render, but I dont think it looks that realistic:

I tried, but maya aborted the render at 30% cause of low memory, so I had to resize the textures, relocate them, get rid of the image plane etc. Plus it should be better to always render in passes so you can composite it in post, but photoshop leaves a premultiplication ring around the render, what you can rid of in AE, but not in PS.. :(

anyway, here's some more images of the model since I didnt really post any shots of all the updated parts.

p.s. Work on A330 is gonna start soon.

That does look very impressive, If I was to be picky though... I would say either the sky needs to be brighter or the aircraft needs to be darker. The aircraft reflections look a little too light for the surroundings ;)

How about the texture of the engine fan? The real one doesn't look that shinny.....

Post by Morhaf »

ok, so, combining all the tips I got, I gotta texture/adjust the shader of the fan blades, make the plane darker, and add some lights and add some noise and blur to the plane to make it more photorealistic..

just a question.. why do I need to texture the fan's? its not like SWISS is putting their logo on each of them.. :| Dont they just have one neutral color (metal) ? Ok so I should probably tweak the shader.. oh and the fans arent moving yet, so I might do that too

Well I think the reason of having texture on engine fans is that they are metallic, but they are dull in nature, leaving them too sharp when you look at it from the outside, like the one made by wilco.

I've been working on animating and trying to get the wingflex look right (it is now, except the engines arent moving with it :x )
Haven't found much time to continue work since I've been busy with school lately, lots of important exams etc.

Don't worry Morhaf, here's another guy fighting in the public exams in Hong Kong. I just messed up one of the papers in UE (Use of English), I'm so damn pissed, and my maths isn't very good, I've got to pass in Maths in order to get into the university!!! and it's a week left till the exam >.< Take whatever time you need on the model, I can't play until I get my exams right.......
We'll certainly pray for you, so do your best~~!!
(BTW, I guess my major concern is the landing animation of the main gear, so take your time ;) )

Anyway, the model as of now:

New winglet design :P :

I'm truly saddened to report that the Airbus A340 has tragically crashed after taking off. While taking off, passengers reported seeing the wing being under a lot of stress from all the lift being produced.

The airbus, powered by 4 hairdryers, had shown some problems with its wings before, but none to suggest flexing weaknesses. Moments after lifting off, the wings snapped, causing the 2 outboard engines to detach from their pylons, together with the rotating fanblades being shot out, and the ailerons and some flapcanoes falling off.

After gliding with broken engines and wings, the aircraft impacted the ground. Miraculously the plane remained intact, and all the passengers were able to evacuate before the aircraft bursted into flames.

Some pictures:

At the moment of maximum stress, causing wingparts to get ripped off violently.

  I clearly need a new graphics card.. This is getting worse and worse!! Well, at least I can make up a funny story to go with it.

Yea, this is still the old model, haven't changed much, since maya's modelling tools are a pain in the @$$.. also maya is reallyy slow.

btw I'm going to Egypt tomorrow!! :D (with SWISS ) Taking the A320 and the A340 (you know, that plane I've been working on a year or so) :D
