How to create two cool spray effects [fs9]

Post by rapax »

  • I am going to show you how you can easily add two nice spray effects to your PA A32X.
  • Image
  • At first you need to download these two files:
    FS2004 Reverser Spray by Edward Cox (for thrust reverser effect)
    flightsim or avsim

    Rainwash Effect by Dennis Franke (for take off effect) v2.1 + fix
    avsim & avsim
    or
    flightsim & flightsim
  • Install all effects following the instructions given in the readme files.
    Add the following lines to your [Window00] section of you panel.cfg.
    ("replacing the XX with the next number that follows the last gauge line in that section")

    for the reverser spray:
    gaugeXX=revspray!revspray, 0,0,10,10 // Reverser splash

    for the take off effect:
    gaugeXX=spray!rain_spray, 0,0,10,10 //for engines water spray
    gaugeXX=spray!gear_spray, 0,0,10,10 //for the main gear
    gaugeXX=spray!front_gear_spray, 0,0,10,10 //for the front wheel
  • Once you are finished you can add the following lines to your aircraft.cfg.
    ("replacing the XX with the next number that follows the last gauge line in that section")

    [LIGHTS]
    ...
    light.XX = 8, -9.28, 19.34, 0, Rainwash_s
    light.XX = 8, -10.52, -19.03, 0, Rainwash_s

    [SMOKESYSTEM]
    ...
    smoke.XX= 0.0, 8.0, -20.0, Opensky_revspray
    smoke.XX= 0.0, 8.0, 20.0, Opensky_revspray

    *works for the PA A318, A319 and A320
  • Congrats, that's all.

    Now start a flight in rain or snow and make sure to switch to panelview first to activate our panel.cfg entries (panel by ken mitchell)

    Image
    Once you bring your N1 to 49% and above the take off effect will show up

    Image
    Once you are airborne the effect will automatically stop 20ft above ground

    Image

    Image
    Active thrust reversers will show this effect

    Image
    Make sure to switch of the jetheat by pressing ctrl+w (only available for A318 and A319) to avoid this effect

    Here are some videos featuring the spray effect
  • video 1
  • video 2
  • video 3

    Hope you like it and I wish you many wet runways :D

Cool. Could it work in FSX? Or are there differences in effects files etc between FSX and FS9?

I've just tried it in FSX (with the A319) and it seems to work pretty well :)

EDIT: Just realised from the reply below why the effect seems a bit 'off' on my system :oops:

You would have to rearrange the effect placements. i think in FS9 it goes long, lat, vert. i know that FSX is different but im not sure what.

Nice effects indeed but...
I have tried it in the past...
I do not want to mess with the lights again! It gave me alot of bugs!
Lights are for lights not for smoke effects...

Cheers
