vasfmc_panel_a320 & uecam N2 & EGT overlap

Post by quentcor »

I am using the vasfmc_panel_a320 with the Project Airbus A320 at a screen resolution of 2560X1440. The aircraft and all gauges other than the upper ECAM display with excellent clarity. Because the upper ECAM is designed for a screen resolution of 1600X1200, this ecam shows the N2% and EGT virtually on top of one another at the higher resolution. I've tried stretching the Y value of the gauge and this solves the problem of putting space between the overlapping values, but extends the gauge background outside the main panel bitmap, so this doesn't work. An ideal solution would be to re-define the resolution of the upper ECAM gauge so it renders correctly. I don't know how to do this and would appreciate help from someone with gauge editing expertise. I thought I might try copying the vasfmc gauge with a view to opening the copy with FS Panel Studio's gauge editor and exploring to see if I could effect the resolution change myself, but the gauge editor wont open vasfmcgau.gau. The current rendering of the plane, panel and gauges is of such high quality that I do not wish to revert to a screen resolution of 1600X1200 to accommodate one gauge and lose the quality of the rest. I would be most grateful for some help in modifying the upper ECAM's resolution to make it compatible with the 2560X1440 setup.

Should be no problem though - post your [Window00] section of the panel.cfg.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. Herewith the [Window00] of the panel:
[Window00]
//Main Panel
file=MAIN.bmp
size_mm=1600,1200
position=7
visible=1
ident=0
gauge00=Z_AB320KM!Gear,1533,822,51,147
gauge01=vasfmcgau!pfd,24,692,450,450, builtin id10001 a_style
gauge02=vasfmcgau!nd,523,692,450,450, builtin id10002 a_style
gauge03=vasfmcgau!uecam,1022,692,450,450, builtin id10003 a_style
gauge04=vasfmcgau!fcu,601,433,998,166gauge05=Z_AB320KM!Overhead,550,1170,26,26
gauge06=Z_AB320KM!540,590,1170,26,26
gauge07=Z_AB320KM!Throttle,630,1170,26,26
//gauge08=SimIcons!GPS Icon,670,1170,26,26
gauge08=ACS.CrewDialog,1205,605,60,40

I look forward to seeing how the adjustment is done.
Thanks again.

Very strange thing: there is something wrong with the scale part of the displays (gauges), because the correct x:y is coupled with the resolution of FS; only in a 4:3 resolution the displays will draw correct. I have tried a few tricks, but nothing seems to fix this problem.

Thank you Chris for your efforts. Much appreciated. It is a real puzzle that every gauge other than the upper ecam draws perfectly. I will live with the situation, but it would be interesting to have the gauge designer's views.

I was experimenting with my monitor settings a while ago and the overlapping problem persists on all the possible aspect ratios, i.e., 16:9, 4:3 and 5:4, so it doesn't appear to be a FS2004 problem. It might be very helpful to ask whoever made the gauge what the possible causes could be. I estimate that the gauge background bitmap is approximately 90 pixels too long in the Y value. Is there some way to change this? I arrived at the 90 pixels by increasing the Y value for the gauge in the panel definition until the gauge rendered properly, with approx equal spacing between all the gauge dials etc. Of course, the gauge background is then drawn 'outside' the panel bitmap.

It's very strange that only the upper ecam gauge wont render correctly. All other gauges and the panel bitmap etc are drawn to perfection with the 2560X1440 pixel configuration.

The more I use the vasfmc_panel_a320, the more I am convinced that the upper ecam is "not well". It is the only gauge in the vasfmc 'stable' which is a little less than perfect. Its counterpart in the A380 virtual cockpit renders and performs perfectly. The a320 upper ecam has the following issues: it doesn't respond accurately to higher FS2004 screen settings and draws the N2 and EGT virtually on top of one another. The N1 needle displays at around 85% in climb mode, when one would expect it to show something closer to full power. The A380 ecam displays at approx. 105-107% in climb mode, which seems to me to be more realistic. It's sad for me that a really sterling piece of work like the vasfmc product should have this one single blemish, which no-one seems to want to put right. I am mindful that the product was offered free of cost when it would have sold well as shareware. I am prepared to pay for the work (or make a donation) in repairing the vasfmc A320 upper ecam gauge, if there is someone who is prepared to invest his time to effect the repairs. Perhaps one of the Project Airbus team can tell me who to approach to get this work done for everyone's benefit.

You can try to change the n1_correction_factor value in the a320(a320-project-airbus).cfg file in the vasfmc\aircraft_data folder.
