I can't seem to find the FSX Sharklet VC model for the A318, does one even exist?

No, none of the sharklet models are available for FSX. The FS9 models do (or should) work in FSX though performance might be impaired.

'Should' is the best word. The FS9 models don't work for me.

Have you checked that the panel.cfg and sound.cfg aliases point to existent panel and sound packs?

The exterior model appears tranparent anyway.
