Visual model could not be displayed message for A380

Post by joevee » 06 Nov 2010, 21:43

Hi everybody. I registered a few minutes ago as I am unable to load the Project Airbus A380 in FSX. I run Windows 7 64 bits and FSX SP2. The sim runs great and I installed hundreds of aircraft, sceneries and utilities over the years, both freeware and payware.

Before installing the A380, I read that to have a VC, I'd better download and install either of Thomas Ruth's A340-500 or 600. I duly installed both aircraft and they work perfectly, VC and everything.

I next downloaded the first item on Air New Zealand_320's list, the Air France A380. Now, I feel I followed each step carefully from the printed copy I made of the list.

Yet, upon starting FSX and loading my default flight, when I load the Project Airbus with the Air France livery, a photo of which is clearly visible in my aircraft collection,
I get no aircraft on my screen in any of the 4 views and the following message pops up:

"Visual model could not be displayed.
Airbus A 380-841 Air France (wingview)".

I then downloaded the last item on the list, Singapore Airlines' A-380 with the same issue:

"Visual model could not be displayed.
Airbus A 380-841 Singapore Airline (wingview)".

Could anyone who encountered the same problem help me with this please?

From the pictures I've seen, the Project Airbus aircraft look fantastic and I've read nothing but praise for your efforts. I'm anxious to fly this beautiful machine, obviously.

Thank you.

Could you paste your model.cfg's contents?

Thank you for answering so quickly!

Here is what I have in my model.cfg file:

[models]
normal=A380_800_RR
interior=A380_800_CBN_RR

I can't understand this as I distinctly remember changing this to 'interior=TomA346NG_interior'.
What gives? I even 'saved' the model configuration file, closed it and re-opened it to make sure the changes stayed...

I don't believe changing Rolls-Royce for Engine Alliance could be the problem? Or could it?

Oops! Sorry. I'm editing this reply. The Model Config did NOT change for no apparent reason; the 'TomA346NG_interior is in my Model.VC file, instead.
So, back to square one.

Thank you.

You need to move the VC model to the same folder the external model is in and change the model.cfg to read:

Code: Select all

[models]
normal=A380_800_RR
interior=TomA346NG_interior
The entries in the model.cfg should match the model files names, so if you're using the EA model change "A380_800_RR" to "A380_800_EA"

Thank you so much, esg. You made my day. Sorry it took so long to reply to you.

My problem was that I had not deleted the original model folder and its contents, and I had both a 'model' folder and a 'model.vc' one!

I followed your instructions and, voilà! I am now the proud captain of two beautiful A380s, the Air France and the Singapore Airlines aircraft.

And they fly very well. I can feel the weight. The only tiny issue for me is that after I first load the aircraft, the VC shows up quickly but the 2D panel takes a good 8 or 10 seconds to appear. All in all, a very good freeware and please thank the authors on my behalf.

Again, thanks for your help, esg.

Just a little question on this thread. Is it possible to have the cabin view models (A380_800_CBN_xx.mdl's) also with the TomVC and the external model? A380_800_CBN_RR? If so, how do we alias it in the model.cfg? :oops:
Any ideas?
