Photoshop Effects

Post by Billster8724 » 30 May 2011, 03:14

Many repaint previews that have been posted in these forums seem to display different types of effects that wouldn't normally be default with photoshop. I could be wrong though, so Im wondering if these plugins for photoshop, and if so, what types of effects are they?

For example, in the preview showing the BMI A321 by Tom Collins

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=871

the livery apears to have a metallic shine to it. Are these just effects for the picture, or are they actually part of the repaint? Im doing liveries now, so I want to try to make them the best I can. If there are any suggestions/recommendations for repaint touchup effects, please pass them along ;)

Thanks,

Bill

differents painters have different customized effects. They've been created using different tools, sure there're some plug-ins but not specifically for painting FS aircraft. There're brushes and plug-ins that you can get for free on different websites. It's not part of the repaint, Tom collins does very well doing shiny metallic look, you should ask him for a lil tutorial ;)

right Tom Collins :P (if you ever read this lol)

The best thing to do is get used to how layering works and simply experiment, layers are the most important thing in getting your repaints to look good. You can easily create your own effects by taking a sample from a photograph pasting it into your livery and by altering the blending/opacity to see what kind of effect you get on the livery, experiment and see what you come up with. Make sure though you don't overdo any effect, FS9 has the knack of knocking you down when you find something looks really really good. :)

I PM'd him but he didnt respond lol. And I'm pretty good with using photoshop, and how the layers work, as Ive done it for years (never aircraft repainting though!). I just have never gotten into downloading PS plugins so I wasnt sure what ones would be used in that case.

I personally don't like doing photoreal repaints unless i'm completely desperate about a logo or something. I like to do everything from scratch. I only download the logos and font for the particular airline im painting for.

Since you have experience with PS, then it should be easy for ya to do the effects, just think what kind of effects you want to achieve and look for the brushes that you think could do the trick.

I don't like photoreal either. I'm talking about effects to add after I do the livery that would make it look like it has more of a metallic shine
