Starting with GMAX
Starting with GMAX
OMG!! Yesterday I downloaded GMAX and tried it a bit by seeing some turorials... After an hour my head was ready to explode!! Defenetly not a user firendly program for begginers! So... congratulations to the modelers for making us such beautiful planes cz I had a taste of what they're going through!

Re: My 737
Yeah I am kinda attempting an A321, but it is quite difficult. They use another program 3DSMax, which is payware. It is apparently a bit easier to use than gMax.dotsalgon wrote:OMG!! Re: My 737
Well I'm highly doubting I will actually finish this. Because I can't quite get the right shape out of it, and I know nothing of GMAX. I tried the tutorials, but it still isn't easy. I got one side of the fuselage done, but I'm not sure how to get the other side, as it was messing up the whole thing. So who knows. If I do decide to go ahead with it, I will post it in a topic. But don't hold your breath lol. I'm hoping PA will eventually release one.dotsalgon wrote:A A321!! Thats good to hear!

Dear Billster8724,
One thing I shall tell you, it should be a wisdom one.
Just keep on trying. If you have the time, just keep on trying. Rarely in life you can get a good thing at first shot. If you pressed a button and messed something, you already learnt 2 things.
1. What is the purpose of the button.
2. When it should be used so not to mess everything.
So make as many mistakes as you can at first so you can know the double in the end.
Cheers and keep on trying

Re: My 737
Thank you for your support. Thing is, even if I were to get it right, and have the fuselage and such modelled right, I wouldn't know where to start for the aircraft.cfg entries, and model file and such. I have never done this before so I am 200% lost lol. If maybe I would make the body/tail/wings, etc, and have someone who is experienced perhaps create the flight dynamics. Won't say right now whether or not I will continue this, but the support definately helps in the decision.

One thing you should do is, post here in the forum, and those that are knowledgeable will give proper answer and advice to your questions.
Re: Starting with GMAX
Don't jump straight to A/C. Try some simpler models first. You need to be very familiar with all the tools in your hands before trying something so complex. I.e. the 717 is my first exterior A/C model for FS, and I'm having trouble getting it perfect, even having modeled hundreds of stuff. There's not many hints to tell, there's much to show though. You either need video tutorials or real time assistance to get it done. The one tutorial that helped me get moving (very) fast is now probably lost somewhere on the Internet, so not much I can do.
Dotsalgon: Since you're Greek, you'll be able to understand these tutorials I wrote. To be on the safe side, download them, in case the site goes down.
Edit - Found the tutorials - those who are interested might be helped by Babelfish. I don't have the time to translate them:

Re: Starting with GMAX
Question for the experts.. Which is better and more "user friendly"? GMAX or 3ds MAX?
Re: Starting with GMAX
They always mention GMAX, they always work with GMAX.... come on, guess the answer.
Re: Starting with GMAX
It's almost the same, minus 3dsmax has a slightly better workflow IMO. People work with Gmax because 3dsmax costs about $5000/copy. Unless you are a university student somewhere and can d/l it for free from Autodesk.

Right, I didn't notice the shot. It's been 4 years.
