A320 - continuous pattern from fuseleage to vertical stab

Post by h3llr4iser » 08 Dec 2011, 13:31

Hello folks,

I am trying to create a livery for the A320 (PA...awesome job!); I'm using the paintkit available for download on this site and I'm having an issue: what I am trying to do is to create a livery that has some pattern (sort of a "wave") going smoothly from the fuseleage to the vertical stabilizer.

I found out that the vertical stabilizer's textures are in a separate file and, more importantly, of a different scale than the fuseleage ones - if you try to import them into the "fuse base" file, the stabilizer is too small.

Are there any ways/methods to align the vertical stab to the fuseleage in order to create a smooth, flowing design with shapes "continuing" from the fuseleage to the stabilizer?

Thanks in advance :D

Since I am not sure I managed to render the idea, I am posting a picture of something similar to what I'm trying to achieve:

Now, I'm NOT trying to make an Alitalia repaint (I think there's a good one floating around), but the style of the design I'm trying to achieve is the same - some shape starting on the fuselage and continuing on the vertical stabilizer.

I agree with Nixpilot ;)

My Olympic repaint has a very similar pattern on the tail area and this is how I did it.

What I do is imagine where the tail is more or less and then paint. Then move layers accordingly.

Good luck!

well here's a tip:

on the fuse paintkit, create a new layer and call it guides, now add vertical lines with equal separation from the last window to the back tip of the fuselage.
Do you patterns and keep the lines on top on your paint, make sure the guide layer and paint layer are 2 separate layers. You can reduced the opacity of the lines if you want. Now label your lines, ex. 1,2,3 etc.

Now paint your tail with your patterns, or you can paint your tail first then fuselage that's up to you. Throw the textures into FS, note down which line number does the patterns needs to be met. Then you have a more accurate way to align your tail with your fuselage, I would rather do the tail first since it has a higher resolution map than the fuselage.

That's how I align my textures.

Cheers,
Nick

Yeah thanx Nix, that's very similar to the way I'm approaching it.

It's a bit annoying that the tail texture is not only separated from the fuseleage, which happens often, but also at a different resolution. Guess there's a modeling/technical reason for it.

Down to work now :)
