Ash cloud, strike two

Post by esg » 17 May 2010, 05:44

Glad I'm not on one of these flights

LHR/LGW reportedly opening at 7, looks like BA64 and BA142 will be the first to land, followed by CX37

edit: heh, parallel landings at Heathrow, bet that doesn't happen often

Looks like a standard approach based on some of the arrivals I've been on into LHR during morning long-haul rush hour before!

Just been listening to Radio 4 as I do on the way in to work and they were hammering the NATS representative pretty hard on it - they don't seem to have any evidence that the closures are justified based on the ash density. Very frustrating indeed - they pointed out most of continental airspace when hit with the same levels of ash haven't closed airports or seen any effects.

Where did you get that radar image from? Is it a live stream, because I have been looking for one for ages!

My Dad works at Luton Airport, so if that's shut again it means he's playing air hockey in the departures lounge instead of not getting payed for a day off! :S

Interesting links! :D

Although that was Ash cloud strike Three!!
Second strike was a week ago (When Greece had it's demonstrations). Airports at UK and Ireland and some in Germany if I am not mistaken, were closed for only one night. During that night the wind moved the cloud north so everything was back to normal.
We didn't hear about it cz the news, domestic and internatiional, were most interested in the Riots and demonstration in Greece than the Ash Cloud.
